Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership is looking for a proactive and creative Digital Innovation & Operations Specialist to help us make the best use of technology across our schools.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys finding smarter ways of working and using digital tools to improve communication, collaboration and everyday processes. You will not be a traditional IT administrator. Instead, you will act as a digital adviser, helping staff, leaders and Trustees get the most from the technology available to them.

We are looking for someone who can combine technical knowledge with excellent communication skills, someone who can understand the needs of our schools and turn ideas into practical digital solutions.

We welcome applications from candidates with a range of backgrounds and experiences. This role would be particularly suited to someone who has developed strong digital skills through professional experience, further study or practical projects.

If you are completing or have recently completed postgraduate study in IT, digital technologies, data, information systems or a related subject and are looking to apply your knowledge in a real-world environment, we would be pleased to hear from you.

About the role

Working across the Trust, you will support the development and improvement of our digital systems, helping colleagues work more efficiently and confidently.

You will:

  • Support the effective use of Google Workspace across the Trust including Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive, Sites and Groups.
  • Develop digital resources, guidance materials and training videos to support staff confidence and capability.
  • Create and improve internal Google Sites to provide accessible information hubs for teams.
  • Develop smarter ways of collecting and using information through Google Forms, Sheets and automation.
  • Support the creation of dashboards and reporting tools using Google Looker Studio.
  • Help develop data workflows using tools such as Google Sheets and BigQuery to support informed decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to use AI and emerging technologies to improve processes and save time.
  • Support secure information sharing by managing Google Groups, permissions and Shared Drive structures.
  • Help teams, including governing bodies, organise and access information effectively.
  • Support Trust communication channels including news updates and social media activity.
  • Assist with digital meeting spaces and operational technology requirements.
  • Support new starters with digital access arrangements including building and printer access.

About you

You will be someone who enjoys using technology to solve problems and improve the way people work. You will be confident in supporting colleagues who may have different levels of digital experience and will enjoy helping others understand how technology can make their roles easier.

You will have:

  • Strong practical experience of Google Workspace including Sites, Forms, Sheets, Drive and Groups.
  • The ability to use technology creatively to improve processes and support organisational needs.
  • Experience of creating digital resources, guidance documents or training materials.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly to non-technical users.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
  • The ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • A proactive approach with the confidence to identify opportunities and take ideas forward.

The skills that will set you apart

We would particularly welcome applications from candidates who have experience of:

  • Creating automated workflows using Google tools.
  • Developing dashboards and reports using Google Looker Studio.
  • Managing data processes and reporting systems.
  • Supporting digital change and improving ways of working.
  • Using AI tools to improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Training colleagues and helping teams adopt new technology.

There are many advantages to working for us including 26 days’ annual leave (rising to 31 after 5 years service) plus bank holidays (pro rata), access to a government pension scheme, sick pay scheme, cycle-to-work scheme, free eye tests for VDU users and employee assistance helpline. Support staff in schools can also benefit from a range of national discount schemes available to education professionals such as the Blue Light Card offering savings on shopping, travel, and leisure.

We encourage early applications as we reserve the right to close the vacancy prior to the closing date if we receive sufficient applications for the role.
