Role: General Catering Assistant
Location: Hayesfield
Start Date: 3rd September 2026
Hours: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8am - 2pm (this includes 20 minutes unpaid break), term time, plus 5 inset days.
Salary: Grade 1 and 3 - 4 scale point range, £12.85 - £13.05 per hour, (full time equivalent £24,796 - £25,185) actual annual £16,312 - £16,567 (pay award pending)

About the Role
As a General Catering Assistant, you will support the day-to-day operation of our busy school kitchen and dining facilities, helping to provide high-quality meals for our students and staff. This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the preparation of food, including sandwiches, salads, vegetables and other simple dishes.
- Supporting the cooking team with food preparation and service.
- Serving food and providing excellent customer service to students, staff and visitors.
- Setting up and clearing the dining area, including wiping tables, clearing trays and managing waste.
- Operating kitchen equipment, dishwashers and tills (including cashless catering systems).
- Washing crockery, cutlery and kitchen equipment.
- Cleaning kitchen and dining areas to a high standard, ensuring compliance with Food Hygiene, Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
- Monitoring food, fridge and freezer temperatures and maintaining appropriate records.
- Supporting catering for school events, meetings and functions.
- Assisting with the loading and, where required, delivery of pre-prepared meals to local schools using the school catering vehicle.
- Undertaking any other reasonable duties that support the efficient running of the catering service.

- Is physically able to undertake manual handling duties, including lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling equipment and supplies.
