Role: General Catering Assistant

Location: St Johns Midsomer Norton 

Start Date: October 2026

Hours: 12.5 per week, Monday to Friday, 11:15am - 1:45pm, term time plus inset days

Salary: Grade 1 and scale point range 3 - 4, £13.28 - £13.48 per hour (Full time equivalent £25,614 - £26,016) Actual salary £7,434 - £7,551 per annum

Are you a proactive, reliable team player looking to join a supportive catering team within a thriving school environment? We are seeking a General Catering Assistant to help deliver high-quality, delicious meals to students and staff across the trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing sandwiches, baguettes, salads, pre-mixes, and simple cooked items using standard industry techniques and equipment.
  • Set up dining areas, manage queue flow, clear trays, wipe tables, and operate till systems for cashless catering and meal authorizations.
  • Maintain high standards of food safety by washing crockery, utensils, and machinery, conducting daily temperature checks, and following Health & Safety and COSHH guidelines.
  • Load pre-prepared meals into the school catering vehicle and deliver them to local schools when required.

What We Are Looking For

  • Physical fitness for bending, lifting, pushing trolleys, and loading/unloading heavy delivery boxes.
  • Ability to operate kitchen machinery safely (training provided).
  • Strong team player with good communication skills and a friendly approach to staff and pupils.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training and participate in professional development.
