The Role: 

St Mary's CofE Primary School is looking for a dedicated and skilled Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join our school community. Working under the guidance of teaching and senior staff, you will implement agreed work programmes with individuals and groups, assist teachers and the SENCo in lesson planning and resource preparation, and support pupils requiring detailed or specialist assistance. Additionally, you will occasionally supervise whole classes during short-term teacher absences, keeping pupils on task, maintaining good order, and delivering set learning activities.

Key Responsibilities

Pupil Support: Attend to pupils' personal, health, physical, hygiene, and first aid needs, implement target action plans, deliver 1:1 and small group interventions, and provide pastoral care. Teacher Support: Assist with lesson planning, monitor and record pupil progress, undertake marking, manage classroom behaviour, and liaise with parents/carers.

Essential Criteria:

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent, relevant experience supporting children.

Education: Evidence of a good basic education, especially in English and Maths. Knowledge & Skills: Understanding of child development and barriers to learning; basic technology skills (Google, email, internet, photocopiers); training in relevant strategies (e.g., literacy, numeracy, dyslexia, ICT); and effective teamwork skills.

Attributes: A friendly, courteous manner with the ability to relate well to children and adults.

Desirable Criteria:

Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 for Teaching Assistants, Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education, NVQ Level 3 Childcare in Education, City and Guilds Advanced Certificate in Learning Support, HLTA status, or equivalent professional qualification (e.g., Teaching, Social Work, or Nursing).

First Aid: Appropriate knowledge of general first aid.

Curriculum Knowledge: General understanding of the national/foundation stage curriculum and basic learning strategies.
